Standard Titanium Dental Implant (Implant Only)

Steps Involved in IVF:

Procedure Description

Standard titanium dental implants are among the most reliable and durable options for replacing missing teeth. They involve the surgical placement of a titanium post into the jawbone, which acts as an artificial tooth root. Over time, the titanium fuses with the bone in a process called osseointegration, creating a stable and permanent foundation for attaching prosthetic teeth such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. This process not only restores the functionality of the missing tooth but also prevents jawbone deterioration, a common side effect of tooth loss.

The dental implant procedure requires a thorough evaluation to determine if the patient is an ideal candidate. During this assessment, the dental surgeon evaluates the patient's oral health, bone density, and gum condition. Bone density is crucial because a healthy jawbone is essential for the titanium post to properly integrate. In some cases, patients may require additional procedures, such as bone grafting, to strengthen the jawbone for optimal implant success.

Once the titanium implant is in place, a healing period follows, during which the bone fuses with the titanium post. This healing phase is essential, as it ensures that the implant remains secure. After this period, an abutment is attached to the implant, which serves as a connector for the prosthetic tooth. The final step involves the placement of the prosthetic tooth, which is customized to match the patient's natural teeth in shape and color for a seamless appearance.

Procedure Duration

The duration of a standard titanium dental implant procedure can vary depending on individual cases, but generally, the full process spans several months. The initial consultation and any required preparatory procedures, such as bone grafting, may take place over one or more appointments. For patients who need grafting, there is an additional healing period to allow the grafted bone to integrate fully with the jawbone.

The surgical phase typically takes around 1 to 2 hours per implant. The dental surgeon first administers local anesthesia to numb the area, then creates an incision in the gum to access the jawbone. The titanium implant is carefully positioned within the bone, and the gum is sutured closed over it to promote healing. After the surgery, the implant site requires a healing period of 3 to 6 months, depending on the individual’s healing rate and overall health. During this time, osseointegration occurs, where the implant fuses with the surrounding bone, providing a stable foundation for the future prosthetic.

After the implant has fused with the bone, the abutment and prosthetic tooth can be placed. This final phase generally takes one to two visits and can be completed in a few weeks. The prosthetic tooth is then affixed to the abutment, restoring full function and appearance to the patient's smile. Overall, the process may take between 4 and 9 months, from initial consultation to final restoration.

Benefits

  • Durability and Longevity: Titanium implants can last decades or even a lifetime with proper care, providing a permanent solution to tooth loss.
  • Improved Oral Health: Implants help prevent bone loss and gum recession, which can occur when teeth are missing.
  • Natural Appearance and Comfort: The final prosthetic tooth is custom-made to match natural teeth in both shape and color.
  • Enhanced Functionality: Titanium implants restore normal chewing and speaking abilities, improving overall quality of life.
  • Convenience: Unlike removable dentures, implants are a fixed solution that requires no adhesives or frequent adjustments.

Risks & Considerations

  • Infection: There is a risk of infection at the implant site, which may occur shortly after surgery or later. Proper oral hygiene and regular check-ups can help prevent this.
  • Implant Failure: Rarely, an implant may fail to fuse with the bone properly, resulting in loosening. Smokers and individuals with certain medical conditions may face a higher risk.
  • Nerve Damage: In rare cases, the implant can be placed too close to a nerve, leading to numbness or pain in the surrounding teeth, gums, or lips.
  • Sinus Problems: For implants placed in the upper jaw, proximity to the sinuses can sometimes lead to complications if the implant disrupts the sinus cavity.
  • Jawbone Recession: Although implants prevent bone loss, some patients may experience minor bone recession over time, necessitating additional monitoring.

How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital

When selecting a doctor and hospital for titanium dental implants, prioritize experience and credentials. Look for dental surgeons who specialize in implants and have extensive training in oral surgery. Surgeons with certifications in implantology are particularly well-qualified. Research the dental clinic’s reputation, and ensure that it complies with international standards for hygiene and patient safety.

It’s also beneficial to consult reviews and testimonials from previous patients to gauge the clinic’s reputation. Look for clinics that offer personalized consultations, thorough assessments, and aftercare services to ensure you receive comprehensive care throughout the implant process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?

The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.

What happens during egg retrieval?

When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment  where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.

What happens to the eggs?

In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle.  Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.

How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?

The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.

Embryoscope©

Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
