The Presbyterian Hospital was founded in 1904, when the National Mission Board of the Presbyterian Church of the United States recognized the need to build a hospital in the area of ​​Santurce, Puerto Rico. The initial building consisted of three wooden buildings, in the same heart of Condado and in the place that the hospital occupies today. Later, in 1946, the Founding Board of the Hospital transferred the management of the institution to a Board of Trustees residing in Puerto Rico and the name was changed to Ashford Presbyterian Community Hospital.

Currently, the modern hospital, also known as El Presby, has evolved to adapt to the needs of the community it serves. At the same time, it constantly incorporates the best in cutting-edge technology and services in medical care for its patients. Accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations since 1958, The Presby currently has a faculty of approximately 250 doctors, 630 employees and 175 beds to attend patients in virtually all medical specialties and subspecialties.
