Non-surgical Rhinoplasty

Steps Involved in IVF:

Procedure Description

Non-surgical rhinoplasty, often referred to as “liquid rhinoplasty,” is a minimally invasive procedure designed to alter the shape of the nose using dermal fillers rather than traditional surgical methods. The procedure is ideal for individuals who wish to correct minor imperfections, such as a dorsal hump or a slightly asymmetrical tip, without the downtime or risks associated with surgery. In this procedure, an injectable filler—typically hyaluronic acid-based—is strategically applied to reshape, contour, and enhance the nose’s appearance.

Unlike traditional rhinoplasty, non-surgical rhinoplasty does not involve cutting or reshaping the nasal bones or cartilage. Instead, the injected filler is used to sculpt the nose, balancing facial symmetry by camouflaging bumps or other slight irregularities. The process can also elevate the nasal bridge, refine the tip, or even out asymmetries, making it suitable for individuals with mild cosmetic concerns rather than structural or functional issues.

The popularity of non-surgical rhinoplasty has risen significantly due to its quick results, minimal recovery time, and temporary nature. With this procedure, patients can avoid the permanent changes and potential risks of surgery. If the results are not satisfactory, the filler can be dissolved or gradually absorbed by the body, making this an attractive choice for those who prefer a reversible solution to enhance their nasal profile.

Procedure Duration

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a quick procedure, often completed within 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the extent of contouring required. The initial consultation with a specialist usually includes a discussion of aesthetic goals, facial analysis, and an overview of the procedure’s benefits and limitations. Once the goals are established, the medical provider will cleanse the nose area and apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort.

After the numbing cream takes effect, the practitioner carefully injects the dermal filler in precise areas to achieve the desired shape and contour. Commonly, the filler is applied along the nasal bridge or tip to correct bumps or unevenness. Some patients may experience a slight pinching sensation during the injections, but discomfort is generally minimal.

The recovery time for non-surgical rhinoplasty is notably short, especially compared to traditional rhinoplasty. Patients can often return to their normal activities within a day or two, although mild swelling, redness, or bruising around the injection sites may last for a few days. The final results are typically visible within a week, once the swelling subsides, allowing patients to enjoy their enhanced nasal shape without the extensive downtime of surgery.

Benefits

  • Minimally Invasive: Avoids surgical incisions, making it a safer and quicker option.
  • Reversible Results: Fillers can be dissolved if the outcome does not meet the patient’s expectations.
  • Quick Recovery: Patients can resume normal activities within a day or two.
  • Affordable Alternative: Generally less expensive than traditional rhinoplasty.
  • Customizable: Allows precise adjustments to achieve desired symmetry and contour.

Risks & Considerations

  • Temporary Results: The effects of non-surgical rhinoplasty are not permanent, typically lasting 6 to 12 months before another treatment may be necessary.
  • Possible Complications: Though rare, complications like infection, bruising, or asymmetry can occur, especially if performed by an inexperienced provider.
  • Not Suitable for Major Corrections: Non-surgical rhinoplasty is best suited for minor adjustments and may not address structural or functional issues effectively.
  • Allergic Reactions: There is a low risk of allergic reactions to the fillers, which makes it essential to discuss allergies with the practitioner beforehand.
  • Risk of Vascular Compromise: Injecting fillers near sensitive areas can occasionally lead to vascular complications, highlighting the importance of choosing a skilled and experienced practitioner.

How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital

Selecting the right provider is essential to achieving safe and satisfying results with non-surgical rhinoplasty. Start by researching board-certified cosmetic or plastic surgeons who specialize in injectable fillers and facial aesthetics. Look for practitioners with extensive experience in non-surgical procedures, as well as positive reviews from former patients.

When choosing a hospital or clinic, ensure it meets high standards of safety, sanitation, and professionalism. It’s also beneficial to consult with the provider beforehand to discuss your goals and concerns, and to gain an understanding of their approach and the quality of materials they use. Seeking recommendations and reviewing before-and-after photos can further help in making an informed choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?

The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.

What happens during egg retrieval?

When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment  where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.

What happens to the eggs?

In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle.  Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.

How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?

The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.

Embryoscope©

Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
