Lower Body Lift
Steps Involved in IVF:
Procedure Description
A lower body lift is a comprehensive surgical procedure designed to reshape and contour the midsection and lower body. It addresses loose skin, excess fat, and sagging tissue commonly found in areas such as the abdomen, flanks, buttocks, and thighs. The procedure is particularly effective for individuals who have experienced massive weight loss, either through bariatric surgery or lifestyle changes, resulting in significant skin laxity that cannot be corrected through exercise or non-invasive methods.
The lower body lift typically includes a combination of procedures, such as a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), thigh lift, and buttock lift. It is a body contouring technique aimed at tightening and improving the overall shape of the lower body, providing a smoother and more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Depending on the patient’s specific needs, the surgery may also involve liposuction to remove stubborn fat deposits and enhance the results.
This procedure is often sought by patients who want to improve their body shape after substantial weight loss or those who suffer from sagging skin due to aging. While the procedure primarily focuses on aesthetic improvements, it can also enhance a person's comfort by reducing the chafing, discomfort, and hygiene issues caused by excess skin.
Procedure Duration
The duration of a lower body lift surgery typically spans between 4 to 8 hours, depending on the extent of work needed and the techniques used. Due to the comprehensive nature of the surgery, it is generally performed under general anesthesia. The procedure may be carried out in one single session or in multiple stages if it’s deemed safer or more convenient for the patient.
The surgery begins with incisions around the lower body, strategically placed to minimize visible scarring and ensure optimal contouring. Excess skin and tissue are removed, and the remaining skin is tightened. Liposuction may be performed alongside the lift to improve contour and shape. Once the lifting and tightening are complete, incisions are carefully closed, and drains are usually placed to remove any fluid buildup during the initial recovery period.
Recovery from a lower body lift is gradual and may require several weeks of rest and limited activity. Patients are advised to wear compression garments to support healing and minimize swelling. Full recovery generally takes around 4 to 6 weeks, with many patients able to resume light activities within 2 weeks. However, strenuous exercise and activities that place stress on the surgical areas are usually restricted for up to 8 weeks or more, depending on the surgeon’s guidance.
Benefits
- Comprehensive Contouring: A lower body lift addresses multiple areas in one surgery, providing significant body contouring benefits that cannot be achieved through individual procedures.
- Improved Skin Elasticity and Appearance: The procedure effectively removes excess skin and fat, leading to a tighter, firmer appearance in the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.
- Enhanced Comfort and Mobility: By eliminating excess, sagging skin, patients often experience increased comfort and improved mobility, particularly during exercise or daily activities.
- Boosted Self-Confidence: A lower body lift can have a profound impact on body image, allowing patients to feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin.
- Permanent Results with Proper Maintenance: When paired with a healthy lifestyle, the results of a lower body lift can be long-lasting, providing permanent improvements to body shape and contour.

Risks & Considerations
- Scarring: A lower body lift involves extensive incisions, which can lead to visible scars. Although incisions are placed to minimize scarring and techniques are used to improve healing, it’s important for patients to be aware that scars will fade but remain.
- Infection and Complications: As with any major surgery, there is a risk of infection, blood clots, or complications related to anesthesia. Proper post-surgical care and choosing a qualified surgeon are essential to minimize these risks.
- Wound Healing and Seroma: Delayed wound healing, fluid accumulation (seroma), or even skin necrosis can occur in some cases, necessitating additional medical interventions or extended recovery time.
- Asymmetry or Contour Irregularities: While surgeons strive for optimal symmetry, some patients may experience contour irregularities or asymmetry post-surgery that may require touch-up procedures.
- Extended Recovery and Downtime: Recovery from a lower body lift is longer compared to other body contouring procedures. Patients need to plan for an extended recovery period, including time off work and assistance at home during the initial healing phase.
How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital
When selecting a doctor and hospital for a lower body lift, it is crucial to prioritize experience and credentials. Look for a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in body contouring and has a proven track record with lower body lift procedures. Review before-and-after photos of past patients to evaluate the surgeon’s skill and results.
Choosing the right hospital is equally important. Seek out accredited medical facilities that adhere to international safety standards. Factors such as the availability of advanced surgical equipment, cleanliness, post-surgical care, and the hospital’s overall reputation are critical to ensuring a safe and successful procedure. Additionally, consider the level of communication and support provided by the hospital staff, as this can greatly enhance the experience and recovery process.

Frequently Asked Questions
What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?
The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.
What happens during egg retrieval?
When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.
What happens to the eggs?
In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle. Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.
How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?
The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.
Embryoscope©
Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
