Gynecology consultation
Steps Involved in IVF:
Procedure Description
A gynecology consultation is a specialized medical appointment focused on women’s reproductive and sexual health. It is an essential aspect of women's healthcare, addressing a wide range of concerns such as menstrual irregularities, pregnancy planning, menopausal symptoms, and reproductive organ disorders. Whether for routine check-ups or more complex issues, gynecology consultations play a crucial role in preventive health, diagnosis, and treatment.
During a consultation, a gynecologist will take a detailed medical history, perform necessary physical exams, and may recommend additional diagnostic tests like ultrasounds, Pap smears, or blood tests. The consultation is not just limited to physical evaluations but also provides an open space for women to discuss sensitive topics like contraception, sexual health, fertility, and any other concerns they may have. The gynecologist’s role extends to educating the patient about her body, understanding her symptoms, and guiding her through appropriate treatments and lifestyle modifications.
Gynecology consultations are valuable for all women—whether they are experiencing specific symptoms or seeking routine care. A proactive approach to gynecological health can identify potential problems early, improve overall well-being, and facilitate informed decisions about family planning, lifestyle, and preventive care.
Procedure Duration
The duration of a gynecology consultation varies based on its nature and complexity. A routine consultation generally lasts between 30 to 60 minutes, covering a detailed discussion of medical history, a physical examination, and the development of a care plan. This initial visit often includes screenings such as a Pap smear for cervical health or a pelvic examination to check for abnormalities.
In some cases, the consultation may be spread across multiple sessions, especially if the patient requires extensive diagnostics or if a specific condition like endometriosis or fibroids needs more thorough evaluation. The initial session would be dedicated to understanding the patient's medical background and symptoms, followed by a second appointment for detailed testing, interpretation of results, and formulation of a treatment strategy.
Recovery from a gynecology consultation is generally immediate, as it is a non-invasive process. However, follow-up consultations might be necessary depending on the diagnostic findings and treatment recommendations. For example, if a condition requires surgical intervention, a pre-surgery consultation and a series of post-surgery follow-ups will be included in the overall care plan.

Risks & Considerations
- Language Barriers: Traveling for a gynecology consultation may present challenges in communication. Ensure the healthcare provider has multilingual staff or offers translation services.
- Cultural Differences: Understanding the cultural approach to women's health and privacy is crucial, as it can vary significantly from country to country. Research the local customs and healthcare protocols before scheduling a consultation.
- Travel & Post-Treatment Care: If the consultation involves a procedure or surgery, consider the implications of traveling post-treatment. Extended flights or physical exertion soon after certain procedures may pose health risks.
- Standards of Care: Medical standards can differ between countries, so it's important to verify the accreditation and reputation of the healthcare facility and medical practitioners before committing to a gynecology consultation abroad.
- Insurance Coverage & Costs: Some health insurance plans may not cover consultations or treatments abroad. Clarify the costs involved, including consultations, tests, treatments, medications, and any required follow-up care.
How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital
When selecting a gynecologist or a hospital for your consultation abroad, it is important to thoroughly research and verify credentials. Look for practitioners who have strong educational backgrounds, are board-certified, and have extensive experience in gynecology. Check if they belong to recognized international medical associations and have additional training or specialization relevant to your needs.
In choosing a hospital or clinic, prioritize accredited institutions that adhere to international healthcare standards. It's beneficial to choose a facility that has experience in handling international patients, offering amenities like multilingual staff, telemedicine support, and concierge services. Reading reviews from previous patients, and consulting healthcare professionals who have experience in medical tourism can also provide additional assurance of quality care.

Frequently Asked Questions
What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?
The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.
What happens during egg retrieval?
When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.
What happens to the eggs?
In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle. Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.
How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?
The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.
Embryoscope©
Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
Orthopedics Stem Cell
