Cruroplasty

Steps Involved in IVF:

Procedure Description

Cruroplasty, commonly known as a thigh lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at reshaping and tightening the inner or outer thighs to achieve a more contoured and firm appearance. It is particularly popular among individuals who have experienced significant weight loss, leading to loose or sagging skin around the thighs. The procedure can help to reduce excess skin, remove fat deposits, and improve the overall aesthetics of the leg's contour.

The procedure typically involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the thigh area, which is then sculpted to improve shape and symmetry. There are different types of cruroplasty, including inner thigh lifts, which target the upper inner thigh; medial thigh lifts, which address sagging on the inner thigh; and outer thigh lifts, which focus on the area around the outer thighs and hips. A combination of these procedures may be performed depending on the patient’s needs and desired outcomes.

The surgery can be life-changing for those struggling with physical discomfort, restricted movement, and self-esteem issues related to the shape of their thighs. As a cosmetic enhancement, cruroplasty aims to achieve more balanced proportions and create a smoother, toned look, significantly improving a patient’s confidence and quality of life.

Procedure Duration

The duration of a cruroplasty procedure varies based on its complexity and the specific type of thigh lift being performed. On average, the surgery can last anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. The procedure is generally performed under general anesthesia, and patients may be required to stay in a surgical facility overnight, particularly for more extensive surgeries.

The phases of the procedure include making incisions in targeted areas, which allows the surgeon to remove excess skin and fat. For an inner thigh lift, the incisions are often made in the groin region and can extend downward to follow the natural contour of the inner thigh. For outer or medial thigh lifts, the incisions may be longer and may extend from the groin to the hip area. Once the excess tissue is removed, the remaining skin is lifted and sutured into place to create a more defined and toned appearance.

Recovery from cruroplasty can take several weeks. Initial healing involves swelling, bruising, and soreness in the thighs, which can be managed with pain relief medications and compression garments. Most patients are able to resume light activities within two weeks, while more strenuous activities and exercise are usually restricted for up to 4 to 6 weeks. Full recovery and final results may be visible within several months after surgery.

Benefits

  • Improved Contour and Shape: Cruroplasty enhances the natural contours of the thighs, providing a more toned and proportionate appearance.
  • Reduced Skin Irritation and Chafing: Removing excess skin alleviates issues like rashes, chafing, and irritation that can occur due to skin friction.
  • Enhanced Self-Confidence: A more defined thigh shape often leads to increased self-esteem and confidence, especially when wearing fitted clothing or swimwear.
  • Better Mobility and Comfort: By reducing the bulk and weight of excess skin, patients often find improved comfort and ease of movement during activities like walking or exercise.
  • Permanent Results: When combined with a healthy lifestyle, the results of a thigh lift are long-lasting, offering a permanent solution to sagging or excess thigh skin.

Risks & Considerations

  • Scarring: Depending on the type of thigh lift, there may be visible scarring along the groin, hip, or inner thigh. Scars often fade over time, but they may remain noticeable.
  • Infection and Complications: As with any surgery, there is a risk of infection or complications, such as hematomas or poor wound healing. Proper postoperative care is essential to reduce these risks.
  • Asymmetry or Contour Irregularities: There is a possibility of asymmetrical results or irregular contours. In some cases, revision surgery may be required to achieve desired results.
  • Numbness or Sensation Changes: Patients may experience temporary or permanent numbness or changes in skin sensation in the operated area.
  • Surgical Risks Related to Anesthesia: General anesthesia carries inherent risks, including allergic reactions or adverse responses, making it important for patients to undergo a thorough medical evaluation prior to surgery.

How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital

Selecting the right doctor and hospital for a cruroplasty procedure is crucial to ensure safety and desired outcomes. It’s recommended to seek a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience in body contouring and thigh lift surgeries. Patients should review the surgeon’s portfolio of before-and-after photos to assess their skill level and aesthetic approach.

The hospital or clinic chosen should be accredited and equipped with modern facilities that adhere to international safety standards. It is also advisable to check patient reviews, inquire about the hospital’s success rates for cosmetic procedures, and ensure transparent communication about the procedure, costs, and potential outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?

The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.

What happens during egg retrieval?

When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment  where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.

What happens to the eggs?

In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle.  Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.

How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?

The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.

Embryoscope©

Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
