Buttock Lift
Steps Involved in IVF:
Procedure Description
A buttock lift, often termed a gluteoplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to reshape and contour the buttocks by removing excess skin and, in some cases, fat. This procedure is commonly sought by individuals looking to improve the appearance of their lower body, especially after significant weight loss, aging, or due to natural body changes. Unlike augmentation surgeries that add volume with implants, a buttock lift primarily focuses on lifting, tightening, and creating a more defined and youthful profile for the patient’s lower back and upper thighs.
The surgical process involves an incision along the lower back or hip area, allowing the surgeon to carefully excise excess skin. This approach results in a natural lift to the buttock region as skin is pulled upward and tightened. For those with a higher amount of fat, liposuction may also be performed to contour the surrounding areas and achieve a more refined look. The length and complexity of the surgery vary, with many patients opting to combine a buttock lift with other body contouring procedures, such as thigh or tummy tucks, to enhance overall body aesthetics.
With an increase in global medical tourism, a buttock lift has become a popular procedure for those traveling abroad for surgery. This allows patients to receive quality care at competitive rates, while also providing an opportunity for recovery in relaxing environments. Those interested in a buttock lift for aesthetic or reconstructive purposes should seek experienced, board-certified surgeons who specialize in body contouring for optimal results.
Procedure Duration
The buttock lift procedure typically takes around 2 to 3 hours, depending on the specifics of the case and whether additional treatments, like liposuction, are included. The initial consultation and pre-operative preparations are critical, as they set expectations for recovery, determine the amount of skin and fat removal, and tailor the surgery to the patient’s unique body shape and goals. During this phase, surgeons assess skin elasticity, fat distribution, and the overall health of the patient, which are all crucial for a successful outcome.
The recovery process for a buttock lift involves multiple stages. The first few days post-surgery require rest, with patients usually advised to lie on their stomachs or sides to avoid putting pressure on the buttocks. Initial swelling, bruising, and discomfort are common, and patients often need assistance with mobility. Within a week or two, mild activities can typically be resumed, though more strenuous actions are restricted for approximately six weeks. Most individuals can expect to return to work within three to four weeks, provided they are in a sedentary role or can make accommodations to minimize stress on the area.
Long-term recovery may continue for several months, with swelling gradually reducing and final results becoming evident. Scarring, which is inevitable with any lift procedure, usually fades with proper care and following the surgeon’s post-operative guidelines. By six to twelve months, the enhanced contours and lifted appearance of the buttocks should be fully apparent, marking the end of the recovery journey for most patients.
Benefits
- Enhanced Body Contour: A buttock lift sculpts and tightens the area, creating a more youthful and defined body profile.
- Boosted Confidence: Improved body aesthetics often lead to increased self-esteem and body confidence.
- Long-lasting Results: With proper care, the results of a buttock lift can last many years, especially if the patient maintains a stable weight.
- Improved Clothing Fit: The procedure enhances the fit of clothing, especially swimwear, jeans, and fitted styles.
- Reduced Discomfort: For those with significant skin laxity, a lift can alleviate discomfort caused by excess, sagging skin.

Risks & Considerations
- Scarring: While efforts are made to minimize visible scarring, patients should be prepared for a permanent scar along the lower back, which typically fades with time and care.
- Infection Risks: Like any surgical procedure, a buttock lift carries a risk of infection. Adhering to postoperative care instructions is essential to reduce this risk.
- Seroma or Fluid Accumulation: Fluid buildup at the surgical site is a common postoperative concern. Surgeons often use drains or provide specific instructions to manage this risk.
- Blood Clots: Extended immobility following surgery can increase the risk of blood clots, underscoring the importance of following movement guidelines post-surgery.
- Anesthesia Complications: Anesthesia, though generally safe, may pose complications in rare cases. It’s crucial to have a thorough preoperative assessment to minimize these risks.
How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital
Selecting the right doctor and hospital for a buttock lift is critical to ensure the best outcome and reduce risks. Patients should prioritize finding a board-certified plastic surgeon with specific experience in body contouring and buttock lift surgeries. It’s important to request before-and-after photos of previous patients, as well as to verify the surgeon's qualifications, certifications, and hospital affiliations.
The hospital or clinic itself should meet high standards of patient care and safety, ideally with international accreditation. Those traveling abroad should also ensure the facility has protocols in place for post-surgical care, with staff who can assist non-native speakers if necessary. Opting for a well-reviewed facility known for medical tourism and with a dedicated medical tourism liaison can enhance the overall experience by helping navigate logistics, from travel to follow-up care.

Frequently Asked Questions
What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?
The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.
What happens during egg retrieval?
When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.
What happens to the eggs?
In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle. Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.
How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?
The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.
Embryoscope©
Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
