About:

Ash Tewari, MBBS, MCh, a globally recognized urologic oncology expert and pioneer in robotic surgery, serves as Chair of the Milton and Carroll Petrie Department of Urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He has several leadership roles, such as Director of the Center of Excellence for Prostate Cancer at The Tisch Cancer Institute and Surgeon-in-Chief of the Tisch Cancer Hospital at The Mount Sinai Hospital. He has performed more than 8,000 robotic surgeries and is a prominent recipient of research grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense. His research interests include surgical prostate anatomy, genetic risk profiling, epidemiology, racial disparities, risk modeling, and integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning in health care. He is renowned for his nerve-sparing technique, which preserves sexual and urinary function. Dr. Tewari and his team at the Department of Urology, thanks to a $3.8 million donation from philanthropist Robert F. Smith, have initiated the Mount Sinai Robert F. Smith Mobile Prostate Cancer Screening Unit. It offers services to communities in need, and it has successfully screened more than 3,500 patients since its April 2022 launch. Dr. Tewari, a prolific scholar with more than 250 peer-reviewed papers, has been recognized in prestigious lists like America's Top Doctors and New York Magazine's Best Doctors. His notable contributions to urologic oncology earned him the American Urological Association Gold Cystoscope Award in 2012.
