Face & Neck Lift (Rhytidectomy)
Steps Involved in IVF:
Procedure Description
A face and neck lift, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to create a more youthful appearance by tightening and lifting the skin of the face and neck. Aging, gravity, sun exposure, and lifestyle factors can lead to sagging, wrinkles, and folds in these areas. This procedure offers a solution by tightening muscles, reducing excess skin, and repositioning facial fat to enhance the contours of the face and jawline. This highly customized surgery varies in approach and technique depending on the individual's needs, desired outcomes, and the surgeon's expertise.
The procedure typically targets multiple areas to address the most visible signs of aging, including jowls, double chin, and neck wrinkles. The process often involves creating incisions along the hairline and around the ears, allowing the surgeon access to lift the deeper facial muscles and fat layers for a more youthful contour. In some cases, additional incisions may be made under the chin to address the neck area more effectively.
Modern rhytidectomy techniques have evolved to offer natural-looking results with less visible scarring and a shorter recovery time. Specialized methods like the deep plane lift or SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) lift help achieve better structural support by targeting deeper tissues. While this procedure is generally safe, it requires a highly skilled surgeon to deliver optimal results and manage risks effectively.
Procedure Duration
A face and neck lift procedure typically takes three to six hours, depending on the complexity and the techniques used. The surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia or, in some cases, local anesthesia with sedation. This allows the surgeon to work meticulously while ensuring the patient’s comfort throughout the procedure.
The recovery process can vary significantly from person to person, but most patients can expect initial swelling and bruising in the days following surgery. The healing process often unfolds in stages, with initial recovery requiring about two weeks, during which patients are advised to rest and avoid strenuous activities. Although residual swelling may persist, patients generally feel well enough to resume light activities within two to three weeks post-surgery.
Long-term recovery involves a gradual return to full physical activity, typically over six to eight weeks. It’s important to follow aftercare instructions closely, such as keeping the head elevated, avoiding direct sunlight, and adhering to prescribed skincare routines to optimize results. The final effects of the procedure become evident as swelling subsides over several months, revealing a natural, rejuvenated appearance that can last up to 10 years or longer.

Risks & Considerations
- Infection: Although rare, infections can occur around the incision areas, requiring prompt medical attention and possibly antibiotic treatment.
- Scarring: While skilled surgeons work to minimize scarring, some patients may experience visible scars that may require additional care or treatments to reduce.
- Hematoma Formation: Hematomas, or blood collections under the skin, may form after surgery, necessitating additional procedures to drain the blood and prevent complications.
- Nerve Injury: There is a slight risk of nerve damage, which can result in temporary or, in rare cases, permanent facial weakness or numbness.
- Anesthesia Risks: As with any procedure involving anesthesia, there are risks related to the patient’s response to anesthesia, which should be discussed with both the surgeon and anesthesiologist beforehand.
How to Choose the Right Doctor and Hospital
When selecting a provider for a face and neck lift, research is key. Look for a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facial procedures and has extensive experience in rhytidectomy. Verify their credentials, certifications, and patient reviews to ensure a solid track record of successful surgeries. It’s also wise to request before-and-after photos of past patients to evaluate their skill and aesthetic approach.
In addition to the surgeon’s qualifications, choosing an accredited hospital or clinic with a strong reputation in medical tourism is essential. Verify that the facility adheres to international standards of care, including strict protocols for sterilization and post-operative monitoring. Discuss all aspects of the procedure, from pre-operative consultations to aftercare, to ensure you’ll receive comprehensive support for a safe, successful, and satisfying outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions
What actually happens during hyperstimulation of the ovaries?
The patient will take injectable FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) for eight to eleven days, depending on how long the follicles take to mature. This hormone is produced naturally in a woman’s body causing one egg to develop per cycle. Taking the injectable FSH causes several follicles to develop at once, at approximately the same rate. The development is monitored with vaginal ultrasounds and following the patient’s levels of estradiol and progesterone. FSH brand names include Repronex, Follistim, Menopur, Gonal-F and Bravelle. The patient injects herself daily.
What happens during egg retrieval?
When the follicles have developed enough to be harvested, the patient attends an appointment where she is anesthetized and prepared for the procedure. Next, the doctor uses an ultrasound probe to guide a needle through the vaginal wall and into the follicle of the ovary. The thin needle draws the follicle fluid, which is then examined by an embryologist to find the eggs. The whole process takes about 20 minutes.
What happens to the eggs?
In the next step, the harvested eggs are then fertilized. If the sperm from the potential father, or in some cases, anonymous donor, has normal functionality, the eggs and sperm are placed together in a dish with a nutrient fluid, then incubated overnight to fertilize normally. If the sperm functionality is suboptimal, an embryologist uses Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection to inject a single sperm into a single egg with an extremely precise glass needle. Once fertilization is complete, the embryos are assessed and prepared to be transferred to the patient’s uterus.
How are the embryos transferred back to the uterus?
The doctor and the patient will discuss the number of embryos to be transferred. The number of successfully fertilized eggs usually determines the number of eggs to be placed in the uterus. Embryos are transferred to the uterus with transabdominal ultrasound guidance. This process does not require anesthesia, but it can cause minor cervical or uterine discomfort. Following transfer, the patient is advised to take at least one days bed rest and two or three additional days of rest, then 10 to 12 days later, two pregnancy tests are scheduled to confirm success. Once two positive tests are completed, an obstetrical ultrasound is ordered to show the sac, fetal pole, yolk sac and fetal heart rate.
Embryoscope©
Built into this technology there is a microscope with a powerful camera that allows the uninterrupted monitoring of the embryo during its first hours of life. In this way, we can keep a close eye on the embryo, from the moment when the oocyte is inseminated and begins to divide into smaller and smaller cells, until it can be transferred to the uterus.
